POLICE COURT.— Monday. [Before 11. C. Baddeley, Esq., E.M.] Inebriates.— Edward Brennan and Patrick Anderson, were fined 5s and costs, or twenty-four hours' imprisonment; Peter Hardy was fined 10s and costs, or fortyeight hours' imprisonment; Annie Lodge, an old offender, was fined 60s and costs, or seven days' imprisonment for this offence. Charles Petersen was also on the charge sheet; but Sergeant Pratt stated the man was in the Hospital, and a remand was granted till Wednesday. Obstructing the Street. — Heydon Smith was charged with obstructing the street by allowing a cart and two horses to stand in Symonds-street, so that a tramcar, driven by Alfred Sayers, could not pass, on May 21st. The defendant pleaded guilty. Sergeant Gamble proved the case, saying the offence took place near the Caledonian Hotel, in the afternoon of the 21st. The defendant also struck witness in the mouth. The defendant was fined 40s, and co3ts 12s. A charge of having been away from his horses, against the same defendant, on the same date, was withdrawn by the police. William Dodds was charged with a like offence on the same date. He pleaded guilty, and was fined os and costs. A charge of leaving his horse, on the same date, against Dodds, was also withdrawn. Leaving Horses Unattended.Joseph Lee was charged with leaving a horse and cart unattended on May 21, in Symondsstreet. The accused pleaded guilty of leaving his horses unattended, but stated his chain was on the wheel. Sergeant Gamble deposed that defendant was very abusive on the occasion in question, which was the same as that on which the other above offences were committed. Defendant raised his hand to strike witness. Defendant made a statement, saying that the long and short of it was that Sergeant i Gamble and himself got excited, and one was as bad as the other. The Resident I Magistrate fined him 40s and costs. ,
