The popular cantata, " Under the Palms," was repeated in the Parnell Wesleyan Church on Tuesday evening, by the choir, assisted by a number of friends, and a good orchestra, Mr. Schofield conducting. The performance was very successful. A Southern paper is responsible for the following : — The only inscription visible on one of the ballot papers at a recent school committee; election was :—- " For illiteracy, a fondness for strong drink, a prolific use of bad language, and an entire ignorance of the fundamental principles of education, the candidates stand so much upon a common footing that it's impoeeiblo to exercise a choice."
