ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.

WAIBOA SOUTH.

The annual meeting of ratepayers was held in the Public Hall, Clevedon. on Saturday, the sth May, at 3 p.in. Mr. C. W. Stephens (chairman of the District Board) presiding. There was not a large attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet for the year ending the 31et March, 1888, were read by the chairman. The balance-sheet showed :— Receipts : Balance on Ist April, 1887, in Bank of New Zealand, £17 19s sd; in cash £18 17s 7d ; rates per collector, £202 3s sd; do., Bank of New Zealand, £7 12s 9d ; subsidy under Local Bodies Finance Act, £57 5s 2d; publicans' licenses, £50; slaughter licenses, £3 11s 6d; dog tax, £6 ss; material, £1 10s; poundage fees, 7s 3d; overdraft at Bank of New Zealand per pass-book, £3 4s 4d; overdraft by three cheques not presented, £13 13s 3d: total, £382 9s Bd. Expenditure: Main road, £107 Iβ; Taupo and Ness Valley Road. £35 16e 9d; Otau Road, £42 7s 2d ; North Road, £16 10s 8d • East Road, £9 5s 10d; West Road, £11 18s 8d; Creighton's Road, £11 14s 6d; Papakura Valley Road, £1 5s : Sky High Road, £2 9s 6d; McDonald's Road, 10s ; Burnside'sßoad £6 12s 7d; repairs to wharf, 3s 6d; material, £8 Is; freight, £1 8s; surveys, £1 2s 6d; gorse nuisance, 15s ; small birds' nuisance, £4 5s 6d ; dox tax, £1 6s 4d; cattle grazing on roads, £3 14s; salaries, £16 0s 4d; office, £12 9e 8d; advertising and printing, £3 3a; elections, £3 15s; legal, £1 Is; debentures, Roads and Bridges Construction Act, £12 13s; publicans' licenses, £2 5s 9d; Hospital and Charitable Aid, £42 2s Id; interest, £1 14s 10d; balance of cash in hand £21 17s 6d: total. £352 9s Bd. The report described the works which had been done during the year, and stated that more would have been done but for the bank declining to allow an overdraft unless with the personal security of the Road Board members. This was not given, on account of the uncertainty which existed as to the subsidy which would be allowed, &c. The state of the several roads was described at some length. The Chairman moved the adoption of the report and statement of accounts, which was seconded by Mr. J. A. Smith, and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a close.—{Own Correspondent.] MANGERE.

The annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Mangere Road District was held in the Mangere Public Hall on Wednesday, the 2nd instant. Mr. James Robertson, chairman of the Board, presided. About twenty ratepayers were present. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The secretary read the report and statement of receipts and expenditure, from which the following is selected :—Receipts : Balance in bank and in hand. April, 1887, £409 15s 3d; rates, £326 12s 3d; subsidy under Local Bodies P. and Powers Act, £396 18s lid; rates upon Crown lands (four years), £60 9s 8d; depasturing cattle, £292 Os lid ; dog registration, £11 17s 6d ; pound fines. £5 10s 6d ; balance on pound sales, £2 12s ; licenses, £4; rent and hire of hall and cottage, £20 11s 6d; rent for roada enclosed, £8 10s; rents from lands enclosed, £8; deposits upon contracts. £13 12s6d; Papatoetoe Road Board contribution towards repairs of Portage Road, £6 : total, £1566 lls. Expenditure : Works on roads and bridges, £754 18s; opening out quarries, £13 18s 8d; contributions toTlospital and Charitable Aid (two years) £207 12s 6d ; Health Act, £1 12s 6d; dog" registration (two years), £6 8s Id; rent of Eound and pound-keeper's salary, £22; alance refunded upon pound sales, £5 ss; expenses and insurance upon hall and cottage, £32 14s 6d; election expenses, £3 3e; office expenses, £2 18s 7d; advertising, £11 lls 8d; salaries to clerk and treasurer, £45; deposits refunded, £13 53 ; sundry small accounts, £2 5s lid; balance in bank, £442 10s 3d; in hand, £1 7s 4d: total, £1566 lls. The chairman moved, " That the report and statement of accounts as read be passed," which was seconded by Mr. Wm. Westney, jun., and, after some, inquiries and agreeable conversation, was duly carried. Votes of thanks to the Board and to the chairman were carried by acclamation.
