AN ALARMING REPORT.
THE FRENCH SQUADRON. SEALED ORDERS. MINISTERIAL EXPLANATION. [press association.] London, May 7. The French eastern squadron, which usually rendezvous at Yokohama, has sailed thence under sealed orders. The circumstance has caused great surprise. Paris, May 7. M. Goblet, Minister for Foreign A flail's, states that the French eastern fleet is off Yokohama merely for the purpose of inspection and manoeuvring.
