Outwards Coastwise.—Fannie, cntter, in ballast for Whangapoua. Yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock the Union S.S. Co.'s s.s. Manapouri arrived from Melbourne, via Hobart and the South, with a general cargo and passengers, as per list published above. To Mr. C. Hudson, purser, we are indebted for latest files, and the following report of the trip -.—The Manapouri left Melbourne on the 4th, arriving at Hobart on the 6th; sailing again on the same date and reaching the Bluff on the 9th; called at Dunedin on the 10th, Lyttelton on the 12th, Wellington on the 13th, Napier on the 14th, and Gisborne on the 15th, taking her departure from the latter port at 8 a.m. on same date, and arriving as above. Had strong southerly wind, with heavy S.W. swell, from Melbourne to the Bluff. On the coast strong northerly winds to Gislx>rne, and from thence to arrival W.S.W. gales, with heavy head Eta. At an early hour yesterday morning the brigantine Ada C. Owen hauled out from the Railway Wharf, and took her departure for Rarotonga with a general cargo and two passengers. The brigantine Oamaru and the barquentine Grecian Bend also sailed, both for timber ports. The former will fill up with kauri at Mercury Bay, for Rockhampton, while the Grecian Bend will load at Tairua for Melbourne. Shortly after six o'clock yesterday evening the Union S.S. Co.'s Rotomahana, from Sydney direct, came into port, and was berthed alongside the Queen-street Wharf. Of the trip Mr. Keith, purser, supplies the following particulars : —The steamer sailed from Sydney on Thursday, the 12th inst., at 5.40 p.m., with light N.W. winds, which shifted next day into the S. W., and blew hard., raising a high confused sea with heavy beam , liweU. Xue squalls of wind and rain were

very severe, and this weather lasted until Cape Maria Van Diemen was passed on the 16th, at 3 a.m. Rounded North Cape at 4.20 a.m., passed Cape Brett at 10.20 a.m., and arrived in port as above. Experienced strong head winds along the coast. Ihe run has been performed in the splendid time of «> days 23 hours, and the Rotomahana averaged for three consecutive days no less than «»- 1 knots per diem. Having discharged the cases of cartridges which formed part of her inward cargo at the powder ground the German barque Mathilde Hennings came up the stream yesterday, and berthed alongside the Railway Wharf, where preparations were at onc-3 made to start unloading. At about 10 o'clock yesterday forenoon the barque Northern Chief arrived in harbour from Newcastle in tow of the tug Awhina, which had picked her up outside Rangitoto Reef, after a very smart passage of S days. Captain Mackay reports that lie left Newcastle on the Bth instant with an easterly wind. Variable winds from the N. and N.E. prevailed till the Three Kings were sighted on Saturday last at 4 p.m. Down the coast thick weather was experienced with W.N." . winds. Cape Brett was passed at noon on Sunday and the barque was taken in tow by the Awhina at 7 a.m. yesterday. Ihe Northern Chief was berthed at the Hobsonstreet wharf, as part of her cargo of coals, which comes consigned to Stone Brothers, is for the Auckland Gas Company. The schooner Agnes Donald came down from the Sugar Company's wharf yesterday with 100 tons of coal, which she will discharge at the Hobson-street wharf for the Gas Comship Killocliaii; of whose departure for New Zealand we received cable advice yesterday, conies to this port consigned to Messrs. T.' and S. Morrill and Co. She took in a large quantity of iron pipes and ironwork at Glasgow, and finished her loading in London. The ship Trevelyan, which sailed from Glasgow on the 9th instant, is booked to the same agents, and brings with her the mains and other material for the Newton Borough waterworks. _ . _ The schooner Forest King, Captain Boore, arrived at Sydney on the 6th instant, from Auckland, with ' lumber and doors, and anchored below Garden Island. Of her voyage across her captain reports little of inte—variable winds, fresh to strong, the whole way. The ship Aristomene, which very recentlv took fire at Newcastle when loaded and about to sail for San Francisco, has had all the damage then sustained made good, and she proceeded on her voyage on the 10th instant, Sho had 2730 tons of coal under hatches. _ .... The Union Co.'s s.s. Penguin, for the South, took her departure at 11.30 a.m. yesterday. Owing to stress of weather yesterday, the s.s. Gairloch was obliged to put back into Onehunga. She will sail to-day for Taranaki at 10 p.m. weather permitting. In consequence of the severe weather at the Manukau yesterday, the departure of the Glenelg is postponed until to-day.
