[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Tuesday. There is a general impression that the Government has not acted straightforwardly with regard to Mr. McLaren's dismissal.

The main reef on the western side of the break at No. 3 level is not to hand yet. There is splendid looking country on the western side of the break. The leading stope west on the No. 7 leader is along 37 feet. The leader in the face of this stope is four inches in thickness. Gold was seen freely through the quartz when breaking down the leader. 101b of picked stone came to hand from this stope on Friday last. The eighth stope cast on the No. ], leader is along 33 feet. The leader in the face of this stope is about 18 inches in thickness. G old was seen through the quartz when breaking down the leader. The ninth stope west on No. 1 leader is along 78 feet. The leader in the face of this stope is about 2 feet in thickness. Gold was seen through the quartz when breaking down the leader. The winze on the new leader in the footwali of No. 6 leader is down a depth of 11 feet. In the bottom of the winze the leader is 4 inches in thickness. Gold was seen freely through the quartz when breaking down the leader to-day. _ The tenth stope west on the No. 6 leader is along 37 feet. Gold was seen freely through the quartz when breaking down the leader; 351b of picked stone came to hand from this stope on Thursday last. Seventy-nine loads of quartz have been crushed during the week for the return of 3640z of amalgam. The battery, winding-engine, and air-compressor are in good working order. The mine manager wired yesterday " 251b picked stone from tenth stope on No. 6 leader." Trenton.— crushing of 10 loads will be completed to-morrow.
