Yesterday morning at about 6 o'clock the East Coast trading schooner Gisborne arrived from Gisborne. Captain Skinner reports that he left on the 11th instant, and called at the various ports on the coast. , At Waiapu he was detained for six days, owing to a series of strong westerly gales. He left that place on the 20th, and le Kaha on the 24th, and had fresh westerly winds to arrival.

The Russian corvette Rynda, after a stay of 12 days in this port, during which her officers and men have made the most of the opportunities offered them of viewing the town, &c., got up steam yesterday forenoon and at half-past ten took her departure. She is bound for Suva (Fiji), and from that port proceeds to Japan, when she will make her way to the headquarters of the Russian Pacific fleet at Vladivostoek. _ The schooner whose signalling by the steamer Suva we reported in our yesterday's issue, turned out to be the Linda Weber, as we suggested, as her arrival at Gisborne was subsequently wired. At 6 o'clock yesterday evening the'steamer Suva left for the East Coast port 3 with a mixed cargo and two passengers. The steamer Te Anau left for Sydney last evening shortly after five o'clock with a number of passengers and general cargo. There was a large number of people present on the Wharf at her departure. From Russell yesterday the schooner Norval and ketch Agnes Martin both arrived with coal. At the Customs yesterday afternoon the schooner Three Cheers cleared outwards for Normantown, Gulf of Carpentaria. Sb.e will first proceed to the Thames, where she is to take in a load of sawn timber from one of the river mills.

H.M.s. Swinger will leave this port for Sydney, most probably on Tuesday next, 3rd proximo. This afternoon the schooner Maile will sail for the Islands.

_ About dusk last night a schooner was signalled from the North Shore as outside ITiri. X The Thames Star gives the following account of the sinking of the New Zealand Timber Co.'ascow Waitematain the Thames River: —" it appears that the scow was loaded with

35,000 feet of kahikatea timber, shipped from Mr. John McKendrick's bush at Hikutaia, and was coming down the river en route for Auckland with her cargo, when she struck a snag in the river near Hikutaia. and quickly filled and sank. The crew, consisting of four persons, succeeded in escaping safely, and at once communicated with Mr. Mckendrick and others interested, when steps were promptly taken to raise the vessel, the masts of which were visible above water. Eventually the efforts in this direction resulted successfully, and the scow was hauled upon the beach. It was then that there was a hole in the bottom about 6 feet by 4 feet, but the damage was temporarily repaired and the scow again loaded with a portion of her cargo. A number of logs comprising her cargo are still floating about the river, but the majority have been secured, and it is not thought that the loss from this cause will be heavy." PORT OF ONEHUNGA.
