Gisborne, Monday. The Hon. E. Mitchelson leaves this morning for Ropata's meeting, in the Stella. Napier, Monday. Owing to the withdrawal of the Government grant and the Borough Council subsidy, the free reading room and library at the Athenreum will have to be closed.

Wellington, Monday. A fight in which Slavin undertook to knock out Schwass in four rounds took place .in the theatre on Saturday night, at Masterton. Schwass failed to come to time towards the end of the first round.

Strong efforts are being made to urge Government to repair the Buller Road. The Government consider that the cost being so heavy, they could not sanction the expenditure without Parliamentary assent. The deputation assert that it would only cost £5000, and another deputation will wait on the Government.

The gate money during the English Match was £179. The Englishmen take 10 per cent. £24 were collected yesterday in aid of the Norse wood sufferers on Basin Reserve, where the Garrison Band played. The delegates of the Industrial Conference have not yet completed their labour. The tariff proposals are still under consideration.
