[own correspondent.] Christchurch, Sunday. . Miss Amy Sherwin's season here has proved a phenomenal success. The Theatre Royal has been crowded nightly. Miss Amy Sherwin's vocalisation is said to be fully equal to lima de Murska's, and she adds the additional charm of a beautiful sympathetic voice. Her season may safely be termed the greatest musical success on record. The artists supporting her have all scored successe?, and the company is strong in all points. Wellington, Saturday. The dwelling of Mr. Haybittle, at Thensam, Upper Hutt, was destroyed by fire on Thursday night. Very little was saved. The Controller and Auditor-General has been appointed to audit the county and River Board and town districts accounts. Dunedin, Saturday. A chimneysweep named T. Gibbs attempted to commit suicide by taking some spirits of salts. He drinks very heavily at times, when he becomes very excitable. He is now believed to be out of danger.
