WAIPU AGRICULTURAL SHOW.

The second annual show under the auspices of the Waipu Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Wednesday, March 14. The live stock were exhibited in Mr. I). M. McLeod's paddock at the Junction, where suitable pens had been erected for their retention. The entries in the various classes in this department were not so numerous as they should have been. Messrs. Elliot and Dibble acted as judges of the various classes of live stock, and they discharged the difficult duties imposed upon them very creditably, giving general satisfaction to the public and to competitors, successful and unsuccessful. Farm and dairy produce, industrial exhibits, and fancy work were displayed in the Public Hall. Many of these exhibits were of really first-class character, and could not be excelled in any district. A considerable number of visitors from adjoining districts as well as from Auckland attended the show. Amongst these we noticed our old friend, Mr. N. McMillan, who came to exhibit two splendid ploughs of improved make, for which he secured both first and eecond prizes. It is estimated that fully four hundred people visited the show during the day. Messrs. Ellingham, Elliot, and Sloane were the judges of farm and dairy produce, while the fancy work was relegated to the discrimination of Mesdames Sloane and Davis. THE EVENING MEETING. At six o'clock in the evening about thirty guests sat down to a splendid dinner served up in grand style by Mr. D. M. McLeod, in the Public Hall at the unction. Mr. C. W. Davis occupied the chair, and proposed the health of the Queen. Mr. J. M. McKay proposed " The Judges." Drunk with musical honours. Mr. Elliot responded. He thought people in this colony were giving too much encouragement and attention to racing, and the breeding of thoroughbred stock. He regarded it as shameful that such large prices should be given for that kind of stock, when literally nothing could be obtained for draught stock or cattle of high grade. Mr. K. M. McLennan proposed, The unsuccessful competitors." Mr. Alex. McKay responded. Mr. D. McKay proposed, " The Army and Navy." Mr. J. D. McKenzie responded. Mr. J. Morrison proposed, " The Commercial Interest of Waipu." Mr. N. McKenzie proposed, "The Press." Messrs. McKay and McLennan responded. Mr. Ruddle proposed, " The agricultural interests of Waipu." Mr. D. McKay responded. The Chairman proposed, "The visitors." Messrs. Dibble and Jackson responded. Mr. Jackson believed that the Waipu people were losing splendid opportunities by not cultivating crops on the fine, rich intervales in their possession. They could get a considerable market for their produce at Whangarei, as they were at present importing large quantities from Auckland and the South. He concluded by proposing " The prosperity of the Waipu Pastoral and Agricultural Association," which was responded to by Mr. J. M. McKay. The following toasts were also drunk : " The Stewards and Lady Judges," "The Host and Hostess," and " The Chairman."[Own Correspondent.]
