NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS.

[own CORRESPONDENT.] v Thames, Tuesday. A feeling of soreness exists amongst the congregation of St. George's, which is much sympathised with by other denominations at a few persons, said to be of High Church proclivities, seeming to take every opportunity of inviting the Rev, William Calaer, of All Saints', Ponsonby, to officiate at marriages, funerals, and on all possible occasions to the exclusion of the incumbent, the Rev.- F. G. Evans. The pleasure which would otherwise attend Mr. alder's visits is thus much marred. Mr. Evans, however, can afford to treat these seeming slights with indifference, for not only is ne popular with the mass of his congregation, but he has succeeded better than any of his predecessors in placing the Episcopalian church in sympathetic accord with other religious denominations. There was a very full muster of volunteers, as a mark of respect to Drill Instructor John Grant, who left for Auckland by the Enterprise this evening. A handsome marble clock was presented to Mr. Grant, and a silver bracelet to Mrs. Grant, at the Naval Hall, as a memento. Appropriate speeches were made by Lieutenant Potts and Messrs. Douglas and Pitkethley, and responded to by Mr. Grant. The hearty applause which greeted the speeches was an excellent indication of the kindly feeling entertained by the volunteers towards Mr. Grant. The companies marched with him to the steamer, the bands playing suitable tunes. Mr. Grant has been'instructor nearly twenty years, being adjutant for the greater portion of that time. The barque Killarney has sailed for Melbourne, with 300,000 feet of timber from Blair and Gillespie's mills. The County Council invites tenders for the construction of the roads between the mines and the landing at Whangamata. "Joseph Toohill, aged about ten years, son of Edmund Toohill, of the Brian, Boru Hotel, had his arm broken below the elbow by falling off a donkey which he had been riding. The saddle slipped, and as he fell off the ass kicked him, breaking the arm. [press association.] Wellington, Tuesday.
