Thames, Friday. For the Thames Central Licensing Committee the following were elected :—Thos. Radford, I). Pitketnley, Wm. D. Reid, T. Veale (Moderates), J. S. Robt. Stone (Temperance). The surveys of the borough being in a mess, the Council resolved last night to invite tenders for surveying the borough, with a view to placing the matter before the Minister of Public Works. [press association.] Waipawa, Friday. A case was heard here to-day wherein Mr. A. W. Gould, solicitor, was charged by Mr. Mirbach with committing perjury. After hearing the evidence, the Bench dismissed the case, stating they were convinced that the action was prompted by animus.

Wellington, Friday. The proprietor of the Brunner Coalmine has received an order from the celebrated Broken Hills Silvermine for the supply of 500 tons of coke.

Mr. N. J. Isaacs, proprietor of the Duke of _ Edinburgh Hotel, died to-day from Bright's disease, after a short illness. He was well-known in Auckland and Dunedin.

Masterton, Friday. The house of E. Collett, Hastwell's Clearing, was destroyed by fire this morning. It is supposed to have originated from a spark from burning logs. Insurance:— Furniture, £100; building, £150, both in the South British office.

Blenheim, Friday. A small brewery owned by Mrs. Barry, but worked by Mr. Ramsey, was burnt down at three o'clock this morning. A cottage adjoining, which was also owned by Mrs. Barry, was nearly destroyed. Insurances, £100 on cottage and £40 on the brewery, both in the Royal Office. A policy of £150 was lately taken out in the Norwich Union on the plant and stock in the brewery. An inquiry will probably be held. Yesterday a six-roomed cottage belonging to Mr. John Renfrew was burnt down. Two rooms used as a dairy were nearly destroyed. £*25 in notes and £25 in cheques were burnt, but the furniture was saved. The cottage was insured for £150 in the New Zealand Office, and the furniture for £50 in the same office.

CiiRisTCHURCH, Friday. A large number of riflemen arrived here to-day from the North en route for the Rifle Association meeting at Oamaru. Only 13 entries—lo rifles, 2 carbines, one team—have been made with the assistant secretary here, but several competitors have senl entries direct) to Oamaru, , . j..-
