London, February 22. The market rate of discount is J per cent, below the bank rate.
Leather is lid to lHd per lb. New Zealand hemp Is £31 to £32 per ton.
The kauri gum market is quiet. 14,200 bales of wool were offered at to-day's wool sales. Consols have dropped to lOlf.
LONDON WOOL BALES.
London, February 23. 25,000 bales have been held Over for next sales. The December rates have been generally except for short and faulty descriptions, which have declined Id to |d. The frozen meat by the Orient is selling at 3id, and that by the Doric at 4jd per lb.
We have received the following cable message from Keuter's agent:— London, February 22. The first series of colonial wool auctions closed to-day. Prices for good qualities were equal to December rates, but short, faulty lots show a decline of Id to 1 act per lb as compared with the closing rates of last sales. Twenty-five thousand bales have been held over for the next series.
