BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The regular meeting of the Board of Education was held yesterday. Present: —Mr. S. Luko (chairman), Messrs. Lennox, Carr, Udy, Upton, and Moat. The minutes were confirmed.

Balances.—The following statement of accounts was submitted :— Education fund credit, £666 Os 7d ; building fund debit, £1283 Is lid; Dr. balance, £617 Is 4d ; Girls High School credit, £705 lis 7d. Chairman's Report.The Chairman reported as to the action that had been taken since the last meeting of the Board and temporary arrangements made. The report was adopted. Vacancy—lnspector of Schools. —Tbe Training College Visiting Committee recommended that an inspector of schools bo appointed at a Salary of £2.10, with travelling expenses,'the appointment to be made on probation for three months. The committee further recommended that applications for the appointment, receivable up to the Ist of March, be inserted in the Auckland newspapers. The report was adopted, on the motion of Mr. Lennox.

Tenders.There were nine tenders received for the erection of a school building at Takahue. The lowest was that of Mr. Hainsworth, £178 10s, and the tenders ranged up to £312. The tender of Mr. Hainsworth was accepted. For painting the Maungatapere school there were four tenders. The two lowest, £7 10s and £10, were informal, and Mr. F. Shepherd's tender, £10 10s, was accepted. Tenders for the erection of a brick chimney at Morrinsville were opened. There wero two tenders, but the committee now wrote stating that the house was altogether unsuitable, and instead of a chimney they wanted a new building. The Board, however, declined to accept the hint, and adhered to the former decision. The tenders were—J. Rocklifl'e, £9 10s, sent by telegraph, and without deposit; and C. Johnston, £10 10s. The latter being the only one in due form, was accepted. In Committee.—The Board then resolved itself into committee, to consider applications as to appointment of teachers, applications for employment, &c.
