Sydney, February 17. The cricket match between a New South Wales eleven and and Vernon's team was commenced to-day. Tho weather was fine, but tho attendance Of the public was not good. The local team was not a strong one, neither Ferris nor Moses taking part in the match. A good wicket was prepared, but it played rather slow. The visitors were tho first to go to the wickets, and when play stopped for the day had lost 7 wickets for 297. The highest scorers were : Road, 110 ; O'Brien, 45 ; Abel, 34 ; Peel, 27 ; Newton, 17.
