WAIKA TO COUNTY COUNCIL.

[BY T£LEOEI?H.-OW.V OOBEESPONDENTiI Hamilton, Friday. At the meeting of the Waikato County iConnoil to day, there were present the chairman (Mr. A. Primrose), and Messrs Seddon, Barngh, Steele,, Johnson, Forreit, and Smith. 'Correspondence with the Waipa Council re •the allocation of costs in the Hospital suit was read. The Council endorsed the action of :its clerk, and instructed him to write to the Waipa Council sending them a corrected allocation. Mr Forrest was to have proposed a motion altering the slaughtering house regulations of the county, but it was shown that before Mr Forrest could bring forward bis motion the by-law of the Council in reference to that matter most be rescinded at a iipecial meeting. Mr Forrest gave notice to the clerk to take all the necessary steps to resoind the bylaw referred to. Mr. Forrest then moved the second motion standing in his name, " That the salary of the clerk and treasurer of the Waikato County Council be reduced by a sum of £50 per annum." He thought that £150 was too large a salary for the olerk, as it did not prevent him attending to other business. The motion was seconded by Mr. J. J. Smith. Mr. Steele said the mover and iseconder should have begun retrenchment with themselves. They had been in the new Council but a few minutes, when they brought in a motion giving thefcselves 10* per day for each day's attendance at the Council meetings, though such attendance did not cost them a shilling. Mr. Baragh pointed out that the work of the clerkship wan very heavy, and they had a •sery able man to do it. The pay was none too much for the work or the ability with which it was done. Mr. Seddon strongly opposed so large a reduction. lie moved, *' That the reduction be £10 yearly." The Chairman npoke highly of the clerk services, and opposed the motion. The amendment lapsed for want of a seconder. The motion was then put and lost, Messrs. Forrest and {•Smith voting for, and Messrs. Seddon, JSarugh, Steele, Johnson, and the Chairman Against it.
