THE GOLDFIELDS.

IrROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ■-» Thames, Saturday. Prince Imperial.—At No. 1 level the drive has been cleaned np to where the crosscut will be started for the reef, and 45 feet of driving, or about throe weeks' hence, should jee the lode to hand. The little block between the intermediate and the top stopo e being taken out; gold shows very freely, tnd some picked stone comes to hand occajionally. There is a fair prospect of matters ieing pretty lively in the mine about the end of January. Maritoto.— correspondent informs me that there is an excellent prospect in Shea's ground. After driving 75 feet, a reef eight feet wide was cut, in which a little gold was seen, but the prospect was so poor that some of the shareholder! thought of retiring. However, the drive was continued IS feet further, when another large lode was discovered. The best portion of it is the hangingwall. 14 inches of which are really good ore. There is a vein about two inches wide which is superior to anything else. Prospects have been washed estimated to be worth a pennyweight to the dish. The gold la considered superior to the Prospectors'. A little gold is seen in the coarser quartz, and the footwall is better than the centre.
