Fbiltjing, Friday. Charles Henry Saddler has been arrested by Detective Benjamin, on suspicion of causing the fire in Ferguson-street, on Thursday, in which a quantity of saddlery, Alleged to have been destroyed, was found in a private house. ' Chbistohuroh, Friday. To-day was observed as a olose holiday, in honour of the anniversary of the - province. The weather was tine. The popular sports at Hagley Park were attended by 5000 people, J. M. O'Connor, scratch, won the mile race, 4min 49jeo, on a very heavy course, The two mile walk was won by J. B. Owen, by 60 yards, beating four others, J. M. O'Connor, soratoh, second. Time, 16min 20aeo. About 2000 persons were present at the Caledonian gathering in Lancaster Park. The five mile walk was won by F. Bowen (600 yards), J. C, Wilson (300 yards), second. Time 38min 45sec. The wrestling championship was won by Harry Dunne, J. Sullivan second, 0. Robinson third. Elevenxstone wrestling, Chas. Dunne first. Five mile bicycle race was won by A. E. Wilmott (80 yards), W. Hayward (45 yards), second. Time, 16min 54sec. , For the bagpipe musio, pibrochs and marches, B. Campbell and J. McDonald tied. Strathspeys and reels : B. Campbell, 1 ; J. McDonald, 2. Highland dancing, 3. Banks. Fling: R.
