Wellington, Wedneiday. A DEPUTATION of citizens waited on the Wel-

lington Underwriters' Association, urging a reduction of the fire insurance premiums now current. The Association promised that the representations of the deputation Bhould receive consideration at a full meet-

ing, and that a reply would be forwarded at an early date. The residence of Samuel Pye, Greytown, was burned down this afternoon. Very little was saved. Insurances unknown.

Greymouth, Wednesday. The body of William Miller, who foil between his vessel and the wharf, was picked up this afternoon lying on the stones under the wharf, close to where he fell in. There is a alight abrasion close to the temple. On Monday Joseph Hefferman, a navvy on Brown's contract, fell from a ledge about ten feet, some mullock falling on top of him. His spine is injured about the loins. His lower extremities are now quite paralysed, and it is doubtful whether he will recover.

Christohukch, Wednesday. An influential meeting was held this afternoon under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce and the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, to receive the report of the joint committee of the two bodies on the rabbit pest. The report, which recommends that a remedy should be undertaken by the State, was adopted, and it was decided to send copies to all members of Parliament, requesting their assistance. This afternoon the Agricultural and Pastoral Association passed a resolution in favour of separate railway boards for the two islands, with a common oh airman.
