DEATH OF MR. JAMES MASON. London, December 1. The death is announced of Mr. James Mason, of Fiji. DEDICATED TO THE QUEEN, London, December 1. Her Majesty the Queen has accepted the dedication to her of the Picturesque Atlas of Australasia. SIR JOHN THURSTON. London, December 1. Sir J. B. Thurston sails for Australia in the"steamer Rome. SOOTS CHURCH, MELBOURNE. London, December 1. The Presbytery of Edinburgh have admitted the marked ability and tact the Rev. Mr. Lees displayed in Victoria, and have thanked him. In reply, the Rev. Mr. Lees stated the Scots Church business was almost settled. THE SUGAR BOUNTIES CONFERENCE. London, December 1. At a banquet given to the representatives attending the Sugar Bounties Conference, Baron de Worms said that the fair and honest spirit displayed by the delegates augured well for the success of the Conference. Sir H. Holland advised the representatives to show patience in dealing with the sub* ject. The Conference has appointed a committee to deal with technical ques* tions. AN EMIGRATION SCHEME. London, December 1. It is proposed to start an emigration society, with a capital of a million, with a view to settle ten thousand people on a large tract of country in "Western Australia. The society is to bear the expenses of passage and settlement, the emigrants gradually repayipg the amounts advanced. NEW ZEALAND GOLD MINING COMPANY. . London, December 1. The Island Block Gold Mining Company, of New Zealand, with a capital of £60,000, is being formed. LORD LIONS. London, December 1. Lord Lyons is much worse, and hid [ condition is very critical. ENTHUSIASM IN DUBLIN. London, December 1. A banquet was given in Dublin last night in honour cf Lord Hartington and Mr. Goschen, The enthusiasm which was aroused in that city by the visit of Lord Hartington and Mr. Goschen continues) unabated. PUTTING DOWN SEDITION. London, December 1. R. C. Graham, M.P. for North-west Lanarkshire, and Barnes, the Socialist leader, have been committed for trial for making use of seditious language at a public meeting. David Sheehy, M.P. for Gal way, has been arrested on a similar charge.
