The a.a. Glanelg and Stormblrd, from Whan» garei, and the Clansman, from Northern port*, arrived in harbour yesterday morning, and last evening left again, the two former for Whanzarel and the Clansman for Taaranga. The lona, for Mercury Bay and Tairua, also left last evening. The schooners Annie Wilson and Sarah Pile both left the Kaiparafor Southern potts yester day. The schooner "Welcome, from Newcastle, came into harbour last evening with a, cargo of coal. She left her port of departure on the 19th ulfc., and had light and variable winds daring the passage. The barque Loongana arrived from ttelton last night after a somewhat long absence from this port, during which time she has been employed chiefly in running between Australian ports and the South. Of the voyage up from Lyttelton—her port of departure—we learn that she sailed on the 24th ult,, and had strong S.W. w'nds to the East Cape, thence light variable winds to arrival. She brings a full cargo of grain, etc., to land, whi.oh she has Leen taken alongside the Railway Wharf, having been towed into port by the tug Awhina. Mrs. Home and family are passengers by the vessel* The attention of' the authorities should be directed to tha very serious risk and danger that exists in the shape of the abandoned and •water.logged timber vessel, the Nancy Holt, which was first neon by the three-masted schooner Waitemata —as already reported in those columns — when on her voysge from the Kaipara. to Melbourne. The schooner was then in lat. 36'17, and Ions;. 162*11 E. This position is about midway between New Zealand and Australia,—and, from being seen by the Waitemata, she libit well in the track of vessels. Let us imagine a dark night, and a vessel going free, what but pure chance could avert a collision, followed by almost instant foundering, accompanied, under such circumstances, with probably total loss of f.ll on board. The traffic between the Kaipara and the oolonles has now as»uaml such dimensions that this matter calls for the urgent attention of either the New Zealand oroae of the ether Colonial

I The brig Review left Fiji for this port, with a cargo consisting of about 100 tons of raw sugar, on the 24th ult. The brig ii now about doe, and will land her oargo at the Sugar Company's work* at Birkenhead. The following are the names of the officers on board H.M.s. Calliope, whioh, with H.M.sNelson, are to arrive here within the next few days from Sydney. The officers are all now to the Australasian station : — Captain, rfenry 0. Kane; lieutenants, Robert K. McAlpine, Arthur W. Carter, Henry Pearson (N.), Henry G. Monokton (G.), Montague G. Oartwright; lieutenant of marines, Alfred E. Marohant: chaplain and naval instructor, Rev, Arthur 0. Evans. M.A.; staff-surgeon, Valentine Duke, 8.A., M.B. ; paymaster, Beeohey Rogers ; chief-engi-neer, Henry G. Bourk#; sub-lieutenant, Hugh H. Paynter; surgeon, Alfred Oropley ; assistantpaymaster, Tom Seamen; engineer, William Milton ; assistant-engineer, James R. Roffey ; Kunnor, Charles O.Martin; boatswain, \Vm, Marshfield ; carpenter, George T. Grant ; midshipmen, Hon, Horace D. A. Hood, John D. Kelly, Frank Brandt, AVllmot S. Nicholson, Edmund J. Prendergast. The ship Zealandia entered outwards at the Customs yesterday for Napier. She is to sail for there in a day or two, and from there pro< ceeds home to London with a oargo of wool, eto. The barque Klrkdale having finished the landing of her cargo of sugar, and the taking in of ballast at the works, came down the harbour in tow of the tug Awhina, and dropped anchor in the stream. She is to leave for the Bluff in a day or tsro, there to load for London. The schooner Waiwera arrived from Rusiell yesterday morning with a cargo of manganese, which it was intended to have placed on board the b.s. Balcarres Brook, for London ; but, the schooner not arriving in time, the cargo is to be put on board the ship Margaret Galbraith, which is to start loading here shortly for London. The ship Bangltiki has now nearly completed her loading for London, for which port her agents intend her to sail on the 17th insfc. The barque Zodiac, from Sydney, arrived at the Kaip*ra on Thursday last. There she loads a cargo of timber for the return voyage to Syd-

ney. The s.ii. Chelmsford, from Opotiki and way ports, arrived yesterday morning with passengers and the following cargo 51 bales and 8 sacks wool, 200 sacks maize, 5 bundles skins, 81 sheep, and a quantity of sundries.
