THE GOLDFIELDS.

Cambria.—The mine manager writes, under date October 31 : The winze on the No. 7 leader below No. 3 level is down a depth of 2S feet. In the bottom of the winze there are a number of small stringers. Gold was seen when breaking them down. There is also good-looking mineral through the quartz. The rise on the leader in the crosscut is up eight feet. The leader is about three inches in thickness. Twenty pounds of specimens came to hand from here during the week. Dabs and colours of gold were seen freoly through the quartz when break ing down the leader to day. I have started to carry along the leading stope. The drive oast on the No. 4 leader is in a distance of 65 feet. The leader in tho facs of the drive is nine inches in thickness. There is some nice-looking mineral through the quartz. Thero are also a number of nice-looking stringers on the hangingwall side of tho leader. The third stopo west on the No. 1 footwall leador is along SI feet. The leader in the face of this atope is about oue foot in thickness. Gold is boing seen through the quartz when breaking down tho leader. The fourth stope west on the No. 1 footwall leader is along 43 feet. In the face of this stope tho loader iB 15 inches in thickness. Dabs and colours of gold were being seen freely through the quartz when breaking down the leader to-day. Tho second stope west on No. 5 leader is along 55 feet. The leader is about 9 inches in thickness. Gold was seen freely, through the quartz when breaking down the leader. The third stope west on No. 5 leader is along 42 feet. Tho leader in tho face of this atope is about 9 inches in thickness. Gold was seen through the quartz when breaking down the leader. The leading stope west on No. G leader is along 32 feet. In the face of this stopo there are a number of stringers in whioh gold is being seen when breaking them down. The second stopo west on No. 6 leader is along 22 feet, There are also a number of stringers in the face of this stope, in which gold is seen when breaking them down. I have stopped 'the crosscut for tho present, and put the men that were working here to extend the drive east on the No, 7 leader. 108 loads of quartz have been crushed during the week for the return of 2S9,>z of amalgam. All the berdanß are now employod on blankottings from the quartz going through the battery. The battery is in good working order, also the winding engine, Mr. R. McDonald Scott received the following tele gram from the mine manager after five o'clock p.m. yesterday: " Strong body of quartz coming in eastern end of winze on No. 7 leader."

Diamond.—The mine manager, under date October 28th, writes :—Since my last the only work done in the mine is the crosscut, whioh has been extended four feet, and after the quartz is bagged, I intend to start in the crosscut again, and expcct to have the reef to hand in a few days. Mr Dickey has now carted twenty-six tons from tho mine, and expects to finish carting on Tuesday next. The stuff for crushing will leave Paeroa for Thames by steamer on Friday. Saxon.The mine manager, under date Ist November, reports as follows The hillward drive at No. 4 level has been extended 15 feet during tho past week. The lode is 2 feet 4 inches from wall to wall, but very mnllocky in the centre ; a little gold is seen when the reef is broken. The leading stope is 78 feet in from the rise; the reef about 2 feet thick, and looks very well. The second stope is 45 feet in, with no change in the reef from last week's report. The third Btope, 23 feet, and a fourth started, in both of which the reef is from 20 inches to 2 feet, showing gold occasionally. The seaward drive has been extended 11 feet in rather broken country, and the reef has been pinched out. The leading stope here is 20 feet in from the rise; the reef varies from 18 inches to 2 feet, aud colours of gold are seen now and then. The winze being sunk from the old stope9, is running the lead out. If it does not improve, I shall discontinue sinking shortly. At No. 3 level the drive has been advanced about 9 feet. The reef, which is about 8 inches in thickness, looks very well, although no gold has been seen for the last few days. The total amount of amalgam on hand from both batteries is 320 [BY TELEGRAPH.press association.] Nelson, Wednesday. Five days' crushing from the Wakatu mine and the Owen gave from the blankets alone 1240zs amalgam. The quantity of stone for this was about 75 tons. After tho 14th of November the first general cleaning-up will take place, when the actual result will be known. It is stated that the yield irom the blankets alone is payable.
