Melbourne, October 13. This morning was dull and threatening, but a large number of horses were out working, both at Flemington and Caulfield. Trident and Abercorn strode along for a mile and a half in company, the pair moving in taking style, and finishing strongly. Volcano was sent the same journev ; and his gallop was best of the day. Volcano is in first-class condition. Silver Prince and Enfilade work together and put in a good gallop. Enfilade has much improved in his going. Thunderbolt has been doing good work. Lara had a spin over the Caulfield Cup distance, and finished in grand style. The Levite did a serviceable gallop. Phaon was out, and wsnt a strong gallop over two miles, moving freely. Pasha and Spade Guinea worked together over a mile and a half, tho pair goiog in taking style, and winding up the spin with a spurt. Silvermine strode along for two miles at a moderate pace, THE BETTING, I.ate last night a movement was made in favour of The Levite for the Caulfield Cup, and he was backed to win £5000 at 100 to 10. Ho is now much fancied, and the best price to be obtained about him is 100 to 12.

There was a large attendance atTattersalh to-night, and tho following ate the latest quotations Silvermine, 100 to 18 (taken); Volcano, 100 to 15; The Levite, 100 to 12 (taken); Oakleigh, 100 to 9 (off); Lara, 100 to 10 (taken), and on whom a large commission has been executed ; Escutcheon and Lord Allen, 10J to 7 (taken). For the Derby Abercorn 18 at 5 to 1, For the Melbourne Cup Algerian is at 100 to 15 (off). Silver Prince is being baokod for small sums at 100 to 10. Thunderbolt was backed to-night to win £5000 at 100s to 4.
