On the 16 th September the rate of freight ruling at New York for New Zealand porta was 22& cents. The barque Rebecca Orowell left New York for Wellington on the Sth September. She brought not only a large mail, bat in the matter of passengers she was alio fairly patronised, having for Auckland tea saloon and eight steerage, and for Australian ports 59 saloon and 46 steerage, or in all 114 passengers. The Alameda, as soon as she was berthed at the Qaeen«*treet Wharf,'commenced the landing of her mails, passengers and cargo for this and other New Zealand ports, and at the same time the work of taking in a needed supply of coal was also carried on. These works are expeofcsd to delay the steam' ■hip until 4 o'clock this morning, which hoar has been fixed for the steamer to resume her voyage to Sydney. The Alameda is still under the command of Captain H. G. Morse, who has with bim Mr. T. Dowdell as chief officer, and Mr. A. D. Little as chief engineer, whilst the important office of purser continues under the care of Mr. J. B. Sutton, to whom we are indebted for the prompt delivery of our files and for other favours. The voyage, which has been, so far, accomplished well within her contract time, appears to have proved a most enjoyable one to the passengers, and they speak very highly of tun attention shown to them by the officers named during the run across the Pacific. As upon former trips, good order and cleanliness in all depart' meats appeared to reign supreme, and to this fact may. in a great measure, be attributed the goodwill that existed between officers and passengers on board. Of the voysge, which has occupied 19 days 19 hours, we learn that San Francisco was left at 3.35 p.m. on the 23rd September, the pilot being landed at 5.48 p.m. same day. Honolulu was readied at 6.40 a.m. on the 30tb, and at 4.10 p.m. the steamer resumed her voyage. Off Tutulla a stoppage was made at 2.20 p.m. on the 7th inst,, for twenty minutes, during which time passengers and mails were exchanged with the connecting cutter from the place named, Auckland being reached as stated above. The trip was only noticeable for the fineness cf the weather, and the smooth tea that wai met with throughout. On the 27th alt., at 10 a.m.. the K.M.j,t. Mariposa, homeWard bound, was signalled. She was then about midway between Honolulu and San Francisco, and on the 12th inst., at 4.20 a.m., the steamship Zeahvndia, also homeward bound, was passed. The schooner Marion, bound for Lyttelton, crossed the Kaipara Bar on Wednesday last. The barque Speedwell, for Melbourne, also sailed out at the same time. To-day the barque Grasmere is to take her departure from the Kaipara, she being bound, like the Speedwell, for Melbourne.
