SOUTH BRITISH INSURANCE COMPANY.
TO TUB EDITOB. Sie,—l wish, with your permission, to correct an erroneous impression that the resolution carried at; the meeting of the South British Insurance Company yesterday, and my remarks in support of it, implied any want of fitness on the part of Messrs. Backland and Morrin to sit on the Board. At the time mention was made of their names I was speaking to the question of a managing director, or chairman, and took the liberty of assuming that their numerous business engagements rendered it unlikely that they would choose, or be eligible to fill, a post requiring perpetual communication with the office to keep au courant with alt that happens and goes on. I knew from previous inquiry that there was no lack of service on the part of these gentlemen in the conduct of the company's affairs, and consider they are entitled to, as I believe they possets, the entire confidence of the proprietary. Moreover, my resolution refers to the filling up of extraordinary vacancies, and, therefore, does not apply to those directors who retire by effluxion of time and are eligible for re-election.l am, &c, Home Bay, October 13,1887. J. Elkin.
