Our Matakana correspondent writes I regret to record the death of Mr. F. Larkins ob September 30, after a long and painful illness, that was borne with remarkable fortitude and spirit. Although a very old colonist, be for some time was in business in San Francisco, where he acquired a competence, and four years ago returned to New Zealand, settling at Matakana, after purchasing the property of Mr. R. Dennison. Shortly after settling bis health failed, and he gradually deolined. The best medical advice and attention was obtained in Auckland, but without avail, and latterly he was attended by Dr. Campbell, ot VV ark worth. Although not permitted by ill-health to take an active part in local matters, Mr. Larkins took a keen interest in all matters affecting the district, and during bin short residence made many friends. He leaves a widow and six children, of whom only one is grown —a son. Notwithstanding the short notice of the interment, a large number paid their hut respects at the cemetery. Mr. «F. Barley, of the Wesley an denomination, conducted the burial service.
