SEAL POACHING.
Melbourne, October 12. The Victorian Government have received a communication from the New Zealand Marine Department, enquiring whether the schooner Awarua landed any seal-skins from Auckland Islands, as at present this was the close season for seal fishery. The Customs Department replying informed the New Zealand authorities that 176 skins appear on the Awarua'a manifest, but no entry has been passed for them. It is believed the skins are intended for shipment to London.
ON STRIKE.
Adelaide, October 12.
A complete deadlock has taken place in the shipping trade in consequence of the wharf hands having gone on strike.

Hobart, October 12.
The health authorities announce that twenty-five cases of small-pox exist in this colony.
THE SUEZ MAIL.
Adelaide, October 12.
The Orient Company's Austral ar rived to-day from London. The following are her passengers for New Zealand :— Lord Dalrymple, Mr. and Mrs. Dunkley, Rev. Povyer, Messrs. Rhodes, Foley.
THE MARAROA. Melbourne, October 12. The Mararoa sailed this morning for Port Chalmers direct.
THE TK ANAU. :• ',5 Melbourne, October 12. ' The Te Anau sailed this afternoon for iho Bluff. '
