SUPREME COURT.—Criminal Sittings. Wednesday. [Before His Honor Mr. Jtatioe Ward.] Unlawfully Wounding. — Hone was charged with unlawfully wounding Charles Henry Wight, at Komata, Ohinemuri, on the 30th of April last. This case arose out of the same set of circumstances that cave rise to the recent prosecutions for penary. It will be recollected that at the last sessions Hoera te Mimiha was convicted of the assault on Wight and catting off a portion of his ear, and Hone was now charged with taking part in that assault, by holding Wight while Hoera cut his ear. Mr. Cotter prosecuted on behalf of the Crown. The prisoner was undefended. The evidence for the prosecution was taken, and the jury returned a verdict of guilty. The prisoner on the previous day was convicted on the charge of perjury, and he was now sentenced to six months' imprisonment for each offence, the sentences to run consecutively. This means a term of twelve months' imprisonment in ail. This closed the criminal sessions, and the civil sittings will commence to«day (Thurs* day). Judge's Chambers. Probate. — On the application of Mr. Heaketh, probate was granted in the wills of Mary Jane Bell Booth and John Maopherson. Taxation.—A motion by Mr. A. E. Maokechnie for an order to review the taxation of a bill of oosts rendered to W. J. Courtney, was adjourned till Wednesday next. POLICE Wednesday. [Before H. G. Sjth Smith, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness.John R. Fryer and Jeremiah Driacoil, were each fined 5s and oos ta for being drunk. . Assault. — Jeremiah Driscoll was aluo charged with assaulting James Scanlon on the 27th instant, by striking him on the face. Constable White, the oomplainant Scanlon, and Sarah Home, gave evidence as to the assault, which took place at the corner of Victoria-street. The prisoner stated that Soanlon had also struck him ; but the Bench refused to accept his version of the row, and sentenced him to one month's imprisonment. Railway Fares.-—William Moore was charged with a breach of the railway regulations, by travelling from Newmarket to j Westfield, on the Auckland-Waikato Railway, without paying his fare, on the sth of September. Prisoner pleaded not guilty, and Mr. E. J. Clendon represented the Department. William Beamish, guard of the train, deposed to collecting an expired tioket from defendant; and Charles Firth, clerk, at Newmarket, gave evidence that he had Issued an ordinary day ticket to defendant on the 30th of August. Defendant stated that he thought the tioket would not expire for a week, and called a witness to prove his statement. The Bench declined to accept the plea, and ordered him to pay a tine of 10s and costs. False Pretences.—Riohard B. Mason, on remand, was charged that he did knowingly, by a certain false pretence, by a giving a cheque, signed by Chas. E. Madden, for the sum of £6, to William Chas. Soar, stating that the cheque was all right, obtain from W. C. Soar, the sum of £5 12a 6d and a pair of boots, with intent to defraud. Mr. W. Dignan appeared for the defence, and Mr. H. Williamson for the prosecution. The former asked for a remand till Friday, the 30th inst., which was granted. A similar adjournment was granted on the second charge of obtaining £6 by false pretences from James Kae.
