A WORKMAN DROWNED AT THE THAMES.

[BIT TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Tuesday. An elderly man named Claud Murray wae drowned in the Kauaeranga Creek, near the Orphanage, to-day. He was a carpenter, and was assisting William Laurie, the turncock, to ley some water pipes on to the Orphanage. About nine o'olock Murray was crossing the creek with a line in his hand, when he seems to have slipped o£ the boulder and was carried away. His body was found this afternoon by dragging. He has a grown-up family, but was residing on the Thames by himself.

The fact of many of the science pupils at the Free Night School being over the age of 21 years, and therefore electors, had the effect of considerably thinning the attendance at Mr. Careon's classes on Monday evening. The "youDg idsas" were "learning to shoot" elsewhere.
