The very severe weather that prevailed during the greater part of yesterday had the effect of putting a complete stoppage to business amongst the shipping, and the continuance of the northerly gale still detains a number of outward bound vessels in port. The «. *. Wellington, which was taken into dock on Monday last for a necessary cleaning, and to obtain some rep/dire, was brought out of the dock again yesterday morning, and last evening she resumed her running to Whangarei, itarting shortly after 7 p.m. The barque Shavpshooter has been taken up to the Sugar Co.'a works by the tug Awhina, and berthed, at t'.ie company's works at Birkenhead. There she is to land her cargo of raw sugar brought from Fiji. The Union Co.'a b.b. Suva proceeded hence last evening for Etst Coast porte and Wellington, with cargo and passengers. Despite the very unfavourable weather that has prevailed since the arrival of the ship Crusader from London, she has made very fair progress with the landing of her cargo from London. From here the ship goes on to Napier, for which port she hits a purt cargo on board, arid at that port she will load wool, etc., for a return voyage to London. That smart and pretty yacht the Muritai, the property of the late Mr. O. H. Street, is announced for disposal by tender. The yacht is so well known here that a description of her is hardly necbisary ; but there is one thing certain, that whoever becomes her purchaser will own one of the smartest vessels belonging to this port. Tenders close on the 15th ultimo, and are receivable by Captain H. F. Auderaon. The B.e. Bellinger went out of the harbour yesterday for the purpose of having her compasses adjusted. The barque Notero goes from Lyttelton to JTewcastle instead of coming on to thin port. It appears that, after all, the Colonial Union Coinpauj'» pioneer steamer — the Balmoral Castle— is to include Auckland in her New Zealand ports of call. She arrived at Sydney from London on Sunday last, and after lauding cargo there, will come on to this port, which she is expected to reach about the S>,h ultimo. Particulars as to homeward freight are obtainable from the local agents, >tie Bars Stone Brothers.

We learn that the Frencb authorities at Tahiti have arranged that for the future a vessel will be despatched ' from Papeete each month with the French rn ails in time to catoh the homeward San Francisco mail steamer off Tutuila. The incoming ma il steamer will in like manner bo met, and r ue mails for Tahiti received from hur. Tf'ja arrangement has been arrived at by the advice of the Admiral of the French frigate Dncr ueene, who it will be remembered when at thi'., port expressed himself as in favour of utilising the mail eervice referred to. The Union Co.'e s.s. Miwhera may be ex« peoted to resi/jh here this morning early, having left Taur»nf> at about 1.30 p.m. yesterday. The Uni',ll Co.'s as. Ohau is to leave DunedJn on ThuMi'.aj- next for this port, calling en route at the U'jual Hut Coast ports. She will be due due he/, u on Tuesday next.
