It Wall agreed to contribute the sum of £10. Rolls.—The rolls of attendance at the Grammar School for the past term were •übmitted by Mr. Bourne. It was shown that there had latterly been a considerable falling-ofL Considerable discussion took place as to the reaaon for the reduction in the number of the attendance, and Mr. Lennox suggested that the Board take steps to find the cause. Mr. Upton referred to the fact of the question having been raited some time Ago .is to the efficiency or otherwise of the Grammar School—it iatiing been thou stated thi.t the institution was not satisfactory, firofessore iShnud :vnd Sale, and other experts, conducted an examination of the school, mid. they reported favourably of its efScienoy,, In the face of this, Mr. Upton asked, how were the Board to ascertain whether the school was or waa not efficient! He thought they should endeavour to devise some means by which they should find out its actual condition. The Rev. C. M. Nelson pointed out that when tbe Grammar School boys were pitted against lade from all parts of the colony, in the scholarship examinations, they acquitted themselves creditably. After further discussion, Mr. Luke moved, " That* com* mittee, consisting of the chairman, Messrs. Aickin and Lennox, and the mover, confer witb the headmaster of the Grammar School, Mr. Bourne, with a view to taking steps to popularise the institution." This motion was carried.

Sciencb Clashes at thk Night School. —Mr. Carson, science matter at the free night school, wrote submitting a report of the attendance at the science oUssea at the school during the past month. He reported that the attendance on Monday evening, the 26th, was considerably below the average, r fact which he attributed to the holding of the elections. A large percentage of tut science pupils were over 21 years of age, and were possibly elector?. Mr. Canon suggested that the Board of Education be requested to appoint a honorary assistant, who would prepare the apparatus for his experiments in the classes. The question of appointing an assutant, as requested, was referred to a committee consisting of the Chairman, Colonel Haultain, and Meesra. Luke and Lennox.
