Shortly after daylight yesterday morning the chip Hermione, in tow of the tug A whins, proceeded to sea, bound for London. The tug cast off from the ship when close to Tiritiri, and 'the vessel then had a good N.W. breeze to favour her getting a good offing before night. The a.s. Clansman, from Kucsell and Northern porta, arrived early yesterday morning with cargo and passengers. She left again last evening, bound for Tauranga. She was preooeded out of port by tho b.b. Zona, hence to Mercury Bay and Tairua. The Union Company's s.b, Te Anau was fixed to leave for Southern ports and Melbourne at Boon yesterday, but owing to tho rush of cargo, her departure was delayed for an hour and ahalf after that time. She was very fairly patronised with passengers. From here the tenner took a large boat which has been built for the Gisborne Harbour Ba&rd by Mr. C. Bailey. The boat is intended to be used mainly in con* section with diving work at the port named. The boat is a well.built one, and should prove well suited for the work for which she has been designed. > The b.b. Chelmsford left Opotiki yesterday morning for this port, and is due here this morning. The s.s. Suva left Gisborne at 10 o'clock yesterday morning, and consequently, should arrive here to-morrow morning early. The schooner reported as in sight from Tiritiri on Thursday afternoon has not yet put in (in appearance here; consequently it is anticipated that the vessel seen was one outward bound for either Meroury Bay or the Thames. The brig Wild Wave took her departure last evening for Mercury Bay, where she is to load timber for Newcastle. The brig was towed down to tho first-named port by the s.s. lona. The b.b. The lohooner Walreka, Captain George Bell, ; hence for Hoklanga, put into Mengonul yesterday for shelter against tha heavy weather prevailing on the coast. The barge Raakaka left Mongonnl for this port yesterday morning with a cargo of pilen. From oar advertisement columns it will be seen that Captain D. H. McEenzie has retired from the shipchnndlery business, with which he has been identified for so many years, and for the future the business will be carried on by Messrs. Ross and Co. Mr. D. H. Ross, the senior partner in the new firm, will be remembered as having been in the employ of Captain MoKenzle for many years, and there is no doubt, from the large and valuable' experience gathered whilst in the employ named, all business entrusted to the new firm will have prompt and careful execution. In addition to the various branches of shipchandlery, Messrs, Ross and Co. intend to add that of sailmaking, and they have secured the services of that well-known sallmaker. Mr. C. Reynold', who will have charge of this department. Messrs. Ross and Co. start their business on Monday next in temporary offices at No. 17, Lower Queens street.
