The cutter Spitfire sailed for Gtsborne last evening, with a c»rgo coniinting of 6 tons coal, 25 tone elates, and a quantity of furniture, etc. It is not in the Australian trade only that there is a high minded disregard of dinger arising from a general mixing up of explosives and combuatible matter iu a cargo. We see that h ve.isel in New York Harbour, bound for Florida, having 150 kege of gunpowder and a quantity of hay aboard, also carried some car« boys of sulphuric acid. One of those broke, the vessel of course caught fire, but by some good providence the fire was extinguished before it began to meddle with the gunpowder. The three-masted schooner Devonport, from Wellington, reached the Kaipara on Tuesday last.

The brigantine Borealis left Eundiberg for Newcastle on thu 6th inst.

The Union Company's new uteamer Fiikaki, built at Glasgow, and intended to open up direct communication between Greymouth (N.Z.)and Melbourne, sailed from Glasgow on the 2nd August, and will probably call at Hobart en route to Dunedin. A second steamer for the same company is being built. From Sydney we luarn in reepect to the state* raents made here an to the chartering of the Collaroy and Coonanbara, that the owner* of the latter steamer deny the statement so far as thair steamer is concerned.
