O.v Friday last the infant daughter of Mr. George A. Field, settler, of Helensville, met her death in a strange and tragic manner. In the afternoon the mother went oat to pay a visit to one of her neighbours, leaving tho little one, aged two years, at home. it seemed that soon after the mother's depar Cure the child left the house to follow her, aud in going through a barbed wire feueethe strings of her hat caught and held her, »-id eventually strangled ner. On the mother's return she found her child hanging as de« scribed. Considerable sympathy has been manifested for the bereaved parents by the neighbouring settlers.
