Penguin, from the South: 200 feet timber, 13 bale* flu, and 60 packages sundries. Per a s. Staff i : 20 cases baoon, 32 bales flax. 4 bundles hides, I bale skins, 5 keg« butter, 7 bags bones, 10 packages luggage, and 30 sundry packages. Per s.s, Gairloch : 26 cattle, 360 sheep, 89 casks tallow, 4 tanks tallow, 74 sacks bones, 143 packages machinery, 2 horses, 11 empty casks, 11 cases, and 6 kegs butter. Tho Northern Co.'s steamers Gairloch and Staff* arrived on Saturday—the former from Waitara and the latter from Raglan. The repairs to the s.s. Macgregor are, nearly completed. The propeller will be fixed to-day, and so-night she will be taken off the slip, and berthed at tho wharf. The Union Co.'s s.s. Penguin, 442 tons, Captain Allman, arrived from the South at 8-30 a.m. yesterday. She left Dunedin at 3.20 p.m. on the 12th ; called at Port Chalmers, leaving there at 5 p.m., and arrived at Lyttelton at 9.15 a.m. on the 13ih ; sailed again at 9 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at 11 a.m. on tho 14th ; left again at 12. p.m. on the 15th, and arrived at Picton at 5.15; left again at 11 p.m., and arrived at Nelson at 6.10 a.m. on the 16th ; sailed again at 8 p.m., and arrived at New Plymouth at 5.30 a.m. on the 17th ; left the latter port at 5 30 p.m., crossed the bar at 7 a.m. on the lS;h, and arrived as above. Experienced moderate weather throughout the passage. The Oreti will not leave for Hokianga and Whangape until Wednesday—the repairs to her shaft taking longer to complete than was anticipated.
