Hgstly, Thursday. The output of coal at the Taupiri Coal Company's mine has been very large lately, and tbe quality of coal very good. The company have driven their seam up to the boundary between Mrs. Schlinker and Mr. Collins' land, and have stopped operations in that direction for the present. Very fortunately for Mr, Collins the coal continues into his property in a deep seam of the same good quality as the company have been putting out for some time past, tie has had some very advantageous offers for his farm, notably one from a Southern coal company, but has not yet decided which he will acoept.

Hamilton, Thursday. Mr. O'Sullivan arrived in Hamilton last night from Hautapu, where he conducted the standard examinations at that school yesterday, having examined the Tauwhare School on Tuesday.

At the R.M. Court yesterday two strangers from Cambridge were charged by the police with riding across the Waikato traffic bridge at other than & walking pace. They pleaded guilty through a solicitor, and the case was dismissed with a caution, defendants paying costs. A man named John Hennin was brought down from Te Kuiti this afternoon to the Hospital, having sustained a severe fractmre of the leg. tie waa working about half-past nine this morning by a tip waggon, when he received .the above injury, as well as being, H>uch bruised and shaken. He was carried by his mates from Ormsby's cutting to Te Kuiti, a distance of two miles. From there he was taken by trolly to Te Awamutu, arriving just in time to catch the train to Hamilton, where, on arrival, he was at once taken to the Hospital and attended to by Dr. Kenny. Cambridgs, Thursday. The first meeting of the -elected Borough Council was held on Tuesday at three p.m. Present : The Mayor (Mr. Gwynneth), Councillors J. Hally, J. W. Priestley, J. R. S. Richardson, J. Ferguson, 1). Richardson, J, Webber, J. S. Bond, and H. Gillett. In reply to a communication sent to the Minister of Public Works, asking to have the payments for keeping the bridge over the Waikato at Cambridge adjusted so that the Borouijh and Waipa County Council would each pay pro rata according to their rateable value, the Under Secretary wrote, saying thetequest had been granted. Instead of paying half the cost, the Borough will now only pay about one-fifth, the remainder being supplied by Waipa County. Mr. S. Lodder was given permission to oocupy section 386 of the town endowment for a term of seven years, on condition that he cleared, properly fenced, and left it in good grass at the end of the term. Several letters were received re repairs needed to streets, all of which were referred to the Public Works Committee. Two sureties for the Cambridge band, who have been allowed the nee of the Public Hall, wrote withdrawing their names. The secretary of the band also wrote offering two other names as substitutes, but the Council decided not to grant the hall again for band practice until the present rupture among the members had been healed. On the motion of the Mayor it was resolved to at once dispense with ttan services of the town ranger. The committee* appointed for the ensuing year were as follows:—Public Works Committee : Messrs. Priestly, Ferguson, Webber, I), and J. R. S. Richardson. Finance Committee : Messrs. Hally, Bond, Clements, and Gillett. The Mayor, treasurer, and Mr. Gillett were appointed to sign cheques. The award of the Auditor-General re the disputed account between the Borough and the YVaikato County Council was then discussed, the whole Council going into committee. Ik was finally resolved to pay the amount at as early a date as possible, and to acquaint the clerk of the Waikato Council with the fact. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the Council rose.

Kihikibi, Thursday. For some time past the Town Board has been at the sole expense of clearing oat the watertables in Lyon and Wbitmore streets, both of whioh, as main roads, are under the control of the county. An arrangement has now been come to by which the cost will be divided between the county and the Town Board.
