THE DONCASTKR ST. LEGER. [reoter's telegram.] London, September 15. The Doncaster September Meeting was continued to-day. The following was the result of the race for Tub St. Legkr Stakes of 25sovs each, for three -year-olds ; colts, 9st ; fillies, Sat 111b; the owner of the second horse to receive 200iovs and the third lOOsovs out of the stakes ; Old St. Leger Course (about one mile six furlougs and 132 yards).—lß2 subs. Capt*in Machell's b c Kilwarlin, by Arbitrator —Hasty Girl ... ... 1 Mr. Abington's bo Merry Hampton— Doll Tearsheet ... 2 Mr. Manton's ch c Timothy, by Hermit —Lady Masharn 3 Kilwarlin was left behind at the start, but made np his ground in splendid style, and won by half a longth, Merry Hampton beating Timothy a head for second place. Kilwarlin has on several occasions proved himself a good one. As a two-year-old he only started'on three occasions, wiuning two of his engagements. He made his first appearance in the Wynyard Plate, run at Stockton, which he won, and this he followed up a little later on by securing the Harrington Stakes, but in the Brihby Plate, for which race he startod with odds of 20 to 1 on him, he was easily beaten by the Oaks winner, Revo d'Or. Kilwarlin is a halfbrother to Bendigo, the winner of the Cambridgeshire, Eclipse, and Jubilee Stakes. The defeat of the Derby winuer, Merry Hampton, will have proved a severe blow to early backers, for after"his victory in the blue riband even thousands were betted many times on bis ability to win the St. Lager. The accident he is said to have met with last week while undergoing his training would no doubt, however prepare many for his defeat. Phakton, WINNERS OF THE ST. LEGER STAKKS.

AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB'S SPRING MEETING. [special MESSAGE.] Sydney, September 15. TRAINING NOTES. The weather has cleared, and is now fine and bright. A large number of horses wer» worked this morning. Spade Guinea and Pasha were treated to a gallop twice round the course, the former finishing strong. Cardigan was sent a mile and a half, moving in a taking manner. Thunderbolt and Silver Prince were sent two miles on the course proper. Arsenal, Enfilade, Cairo, Silvermine, Algerian, and Uunlop were out for moderate exercise. Morok was sent a strong gallop over the Stakes distance, the last mile being accomplished in lmin 50iec. Mitrailleuse and Dividend have done good work, Cranbrook, Aberdeen, Willeroo, Upper Cut, Voloano, Trident, Kiugfish, and Bowmont, were treated to moderate exercise. THE BUTTING. There was a large attendance at Tattersail's to-day. Abercorn and Morok were largely supported for the double event— Derby and Metropolitan, but for the latter Cardigan seems most in favour with the general public. The stable is showing a disposition to back Kltawa and also Spade Guinea. Crossfire finds supporters for small sums, and there are enquiries for Acolyte ; the favourites, however, monopolise most of the wagers. Outside the principal business worth noticing is that £3000 was laid against Upper Cut at 100's to 6. The quotations are as follow:—Cardigan and Morok 100 tj 20 (offered) Phaon and Kitawa, 100 to 9 (offered) ; Acolyte, 100 to S (offered). Later. Cardigan was lucked to-night for £2000 and Acolyte for £1000. The following are the quotations : — A.J.C. Derby.—Abercom first favourite at 2 to 1. Metropolitan.—loo to 9 against Acolyte; 7 to 1, Kitawa ; 7 to 1, Spade Guinea and Upper Cut. [These prices have evidently been mutilated in transmission.] HALE OF SILVgRMISE. Silvermine has been purchased by Mr. W. C. Cooper for £900. All the horse's engagements have been transferred to new owner. SCR/.TCHINGS. Dunlop and Silvermino have been scratched for tho Metropolitan Stakes. Mei.b 'Urne, September 15. laonomy has been scratched for all engagements. ISLAND BAY RACING CLUB. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. A new club has been formed to race on Island Bay ground. To-night a meeting was held, at which 160 members put down their names, and stewards were elected. Captain Hume was chosen judge, and Mr. J. H. Pollock starter. The new club has the option of taking the ground for two years after the first year, paying £250 for the first year, and an advance of £100 for the remainder of the term.
