On the motion of Messrs. Wilson and Bailey it was agreed to purchase (as per circular) a copy of Mr. Wilfred Bidger's Local Government Guide for the sum of 10s, postage Is 6d." Carried. The engineer reported, as per resolution of last meeting, that he had measured a good many of the streets, and found Turner-street only half a chain wide, part of Atkinson-street half a chain wide, and many of the other streets, including the . county road through the township, which is fenced on one side by the railway authorities, less than one chain in width; buc owing to the absence of pegs could not say which side had enoroached on tha street, Mr. Gane, speaking on the report, stated that he, a few weeks since, having to pick up some lines of sections preparatory to erecting fences, had measured aoross from Mr. Winks'hedge to the railway fence, and in the eleven chains, as shown on the plan, there was 38 links deficient. Mr. Gane moved, "That all burial allotments be reduced one half, and the burial fees for persona over ten years of ago bo reduced from 25a 6d to 15a 6d, and for persons under ten years from 16s 6d to 12s 6d. There was no seconder. The Town rate of one halfpenny in the £ was carried on the motion of Messrs. Wilson and Gane. The statement of estimated revenue and expenditure for the year ending the 31st March, 1888, was adopted, on the motion of Messrs. Bailey and Rowe. Another of those Normanby miserable alleged street trespass cases was before the Hawera R.M. Court on the 17th instant, and was dismissed, the R.M. remarking that such a case should never have been brought into Court, and if he did not know the positions of certain parties he should have been at a loss to conceive why such » case was brought into Court at all. Even if the trespass was as alleged, the street was blocked by a swamp the whole width. It was clearly shown that some persona' horses and cattle can roam by day or night with impunity on the fenced streets, whilst other people's are persecuted for having stook on their own land.—[Own Correspondent.]
