FRANCE AND THE NEW HEBRIDES.
A QUESTION IN THE COMMONS. "NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE." [beoter's telegram.l London, August 22. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr. Labouchere asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what action the Government had taken relative to the French colonists who had been sent to the Hew Hebrides since the occupation of that group by the French troops ? In reply, Sir H. Holland said that nothing had been done to prevent the subjects of either England or France settling in the New Hebrides. The Sydney Morning Herald was recently informed by a correspondent at Noumea that a M. Beluc arrived there by the M. M. steamer Sydney, with a view to arrange about sending 200 Überes from New Caledonia to the Island of Santo, in the New Hebrides group. This is said to be the outcome of an arrangement made between the French Minister of Marine and M. Henriques, who is supposed to be acting for Mr. J. Higginbod.
