) TO THE KDITOR, 3 Sir, —I will feel greatly obliged if you , will publish the following extract from the
British Medical Journal of April 2, ISB7 :— " The Contagious Diseases Acts question at Woolwich.—At a meeting of the Woolwich Board of Guardians, the Rev. J, Jordan moved a resolution condemning the suspension of the Contagious Diseases Acts, Haying that he came to Woolwich some years ago believing the Acts were undesirable, He now, as a clergyman of one of the worst districts of the metropolis, was. prepared to give evidence, on oath if required, that not only was prostitution more disgusting and coarse than while the Acts were in force, but that the number of juvenile prostitutes and bad houses bad greatly increased. He then mentioned two very bad cases, which would have beer, impossible while the Acts were in force. The motion was seconded and carried after some discussion,"—lam, &c., Maori, Auckland, June 13, 1887.
