WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.
[BY TELEGRAPH. own correspondent.] Wellington, Tuesday. Ax old rumour has been revived to-day—viz., that the Department of Mines would be tacked on to the Lands Department aa formerly, and that the Marine Department would be transferred to the Customs as a necessary consequence. A West Coast member to whom the rumour was mentioned, stated that any attempt of the kind would be opposed by the representatives of the West Coast constituencies without any exception. With the rumour was coupled another that the Hon. Mr. Larnach would probably go to the Legislative Council. All this, it was stated, was to be done in the interest of retrenchment. I saw the Hon. Mr. Larnach in the course of the day, and he told me that neither of these canards had any foundation in fact, The business of the. Wellington Post Office will be transferred to-morrow from the shed on the wharf, where it has been temporarily carried on, to more commodious offices on Customhouse Quay.
