PROPOSED CONFERENCE. . [BY ELEOTRIO TELEGRAPH. —COPYRIGHT,] [KBOTER'S TELEGRAM.] Melbourne, April 14. It has transpired that after the termination of the recent controversy with regard to the cable rates between Australia and New . Zealand, Mr. Derhara, Postmaster-General, replying to a communication from Sir Julius Vogel, suggested that a conference of Postmaster-Generals of the colonies interested should be held in Melbourne or Sydney, whichever was most convenient to the New Zealand Government, in order that the whole matter should be reopened and thoroughly discussed. Sir Julias Vogel replied on the 25th March concurring; with reference to the proposals, and suggesting that as the New Zealand Parliament was about to assemble it would be better to hold the Conference at the end of the present year. Mr. Derham has therefore decided, should the Cabinet sanction his proposal, to endeavour to change the Conference date. The place of meeting has not yet been decided.
