AUCKLAND ATHLETIC GROUND COMPANY.

A meetings of the promoters and those gentlemen interested in the formation of the Auckland Athletic Ground Co. (Limited) was held in the Imperial Hotel last night. There was a good attendance, amongst those present being Messrs James Dacre, X. Henderson, H. W. Henderson, B. J. Esam, J. J. Koaob, A. H. Cotter, H. H. Davy, Beswick, J. A. Cooper, H. H. Hayr (secretary), and others. Mr. Dacre was voted to the chair. The business of . the meating was stated, and it was announced that on account of the provisional directors being unable to secure a suitable piece of freehold land they were offered a ground on lease for ten years on the Jttemuera Road, and adjoining Mount Uobson. An estimate of the cost of laying down a cinder track, grass track, fencing, erection of pavilion and grand stand was submitted, the total cost being put down at £637 for above with cinder traok, and same with grass track at £464. 'Alternative estimates for iron and rail fences were submitted. Considerable discussion then ensued upon the support likely to be accorded to the company, as it was shown that at present it would be the only ground available for football, independent of the Domain. The Secretary read a list of the shares applied for, and the funds already in hand, showing that 1100 shares had been applied for. In the course of the discussion it transpired that there was a section of the footballers who were rather dubious as to the company, and in consequence they were withholding their support. The Chairman and several other prominent shareholders put the position of the company very plainly before the meeting, stating that it required the support ,of all clubs connected with sport, and that it was not an Amateur Athletic Club affair as some had thought. On the motion of Mr. T. Henderson it was resolved, "That the ! applicants for shares in the company should be asked whether , they would allow the shares applied for to be transferred to a new company to be formed for leasing the ground offered by Mr. Dilworth, and in the event of insufficient support being accorded, the deposits (less expenses) be returned." It was also agreed to instruct the secretary to com* municate with all athletic clubs, etc., asking them what support they would accord in the way of taking up shares. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
