ONEHUNGA.

The ordinary meeting of the above Council was held in the Couuoil Chambers last night. There were present: — —His Worship the Mayor (Dr. \V. G. Scott), Messrs. Eowe, Jaokaon, Tapp, Wilson, Keehan, Hill, and Goldsbury. Ckaritablk Aid.—Mr. Garland wroto reqaesting that the anm of £133 16s Id for charitable aid purposes be paid on or before the 30th instant.

Mount Koskill Road Bcakd. — The Chairman wrote re boundary road, stating that if the Council saw fit they would keep the road in good repair during the next year in lieu of £9 9a due, and suggesting that a deputation from the Board should wait on the Council to consider the claim. The Mayor moved, seconded by Mr. Wilson, that the letter be referred to the Streets Committee. Mr. Jackson strongly objected to the matter going before a committee as the money was due "by the Mount Roskill Board, and ho considered after such a lapse of time that proceedings should be taken for its recovery if the debt could be proved an equitable one. Further he questioned whether an inferior body could keep the Council's roads in repair for them. The motion was agreed to. Mangere Bridge. — Mr. W. Edwards wrote calling the attention of the Council to the dangerous state of Mangere Bridge, and stating that since the Minister of Public Works has issued a warrant vesting the bridge under the control of the Council, the Mangere Board could not further repair It, and therefore would urge the Council to take immediate action and have the struoture repaired. The Mayor moved, seconded by Mr. Hills, "Th&t the Mangere Board bs notified that the Council are awaiting a reply from Government relative to Mangere Bridge." Agreed to. Forming Forbes-street. —Mr. A< Laybourn wrote requesting the Council to have the road formed opposite his property in Forbea-atreet at an early date. .Referred to Streets Committee.

Cemetery Bill.—Mr. Brookfield wrote forwarding draft copy of the Cemetery Reserves Bill, which is to be presented in Parliament duriDg next session. The Mayor moved. "That the Council approves of the draft Bill, and that instructions bo given to Mr. Brookfield to take the necessary proceedings to have the Bill properly laid before the next Parliament." Mr. Wilson seconded tha motion. Mr. Keehan considered that each an important matter should go before the burgesses for them to consider, and he would move as an amendment, " That a public meeting be called, and that the draft Bill be placed before them for adoption." Mr. Tapp seconded the amendment. Mr. Jackson regretted that he could not support the amendment, as if action was deferred to hold a publiG meeting, then there would not be ample time to give the necessary notice, and the whole matter would be shelved duriDg the incoming eession. Hβ was informed that many persons were opposed to the Bill, but he considered that a public meeting could not give the voice of the people, as many would be absent from the place at the time of suoh meeting. After further discussion the amendment was lost on division, and the motion was declared carried. The Mayor further moved, "That a public meeting be called at an early date to discuse the draft Bill." Seconded by Mr. Jackson, and agreed to. Watbk Reserves Bill.—Mr. F. Brookßcld forwarded plan and draft Bill of water reserves, which provides that the reserves can be closed to the publio, and ornamented as a Council may deem fit. The Mayor moved, "That the Council approve of the draft Bill, and that the same be considered at a public meeting to be held at an early date." Mr. Wilson seconded the motion. Mr. Keehan took exception to parta of the Bill, especially that part which provided for closing Spring and Princes streets. He thought it would be a great injustice to pro* pertyholders to cloao such streets. The motion waa declared carried.

Reservoir Site,—The deed of lease received re reservoir site at One-tree Hill was referred back to Mr. Brookfield for revision and inserting attebtatlon clauses. Tenders.—The tender of W. J. Bray for tho delivery of blue metal at Is 8d per yard was accepted.

Financial Statement. —The Town Clerk reported the balauce to the credit of the borough fund at last meeting to be £248 15s 9d ; paid in during term, £149 Is 2<i; paid away, £57 13a 9d; leaving a credit balance of £340 3s 2d, with liabilities under contract amounting to £596 lla 10d.

Accodnts. —The following aocountn were passed for payment: —G. Auckram, wages, £3 ; E. Woodward, wages, 9s; J. Hewitt, wages, £4 4s; W. Daly, contract, £2 10s 3d ; W. Bray, carting, &c?., £3 3a ; W. J. Jackson, atationery, 9a 2d ; W. Wilson, (ieorge-atreet contract, £25 ; W. ITilmer, repairs for Council, £3 sa; Phillips and Son, oil, ssi ; H. Morris, broken metal, £1 10a; Boylan and Lundon, £11 4s 6d ; Keturning Oflicor, £2 2s.

Maknjkau Haß!iooß, —The Finance and General Purposes Committee appointed to furniah information re the harbour, brought up their report, which wae a lengthy one, refleoting on the harbour management, and conoluded by recommending that the Council open up communication with the Auckland Harbour Board, in reference to the letters addressed to that body and this Council, and if thought advisable, that a committee from each body should be appointed to confer upon the matter and make a further report. After a lengthy discussion the report, was adopted. The« Mayor, Councillors Wilson and Goldsbury were appointed a committee to confer with tho Auckland Harbour Board and report.

Recreation Resehvk Lease.—The consideration of tranefering the lease of the recreation reserve from Howe and Adams to Webb and Adams, as lessees, was deferred nntil next meeting, the sanction of Mr. Adams to be procured by that time,
