The passage, which occupied eleven days, was not noticeable for anything other than the fineness of the weather met with.

> The Oceanic Steam Company's R.M. a.s. Zea« landia came into port with the Eaglish and American mails at 8.30 o'clock on Saturday morning last, being brought into port by Pilot Sainty. The Zealandia was very fairly patronised with passengers and! cargo, and, not needing any coal at this port, her stay here ■was but brief, for shortly after midday she ■was under weigh again, bound for Sydney. She left Lyttelton on the 2Sth ult. at 7 p.m., and called at Wellington on the 30th, Napier on the Ist inst., Gisborno on the 2nd, Awanui and Waipu on the same date. Fine weather prevailing. Sir. D. Gouk was a passenger by the Wfufcaki last night from the scene of the wreck of the Mercury near the East Cape. We loam that the cutter was got down as far as low-water mark on Friday last, but when endeavouring to heave tho vessel off the anchor unfortunately came home, and operations had to be suspended for the time being'. The object of Mr. Gouk a visit to Auckland is for tho purpose of obtaining two anchors, with which he feels oonfident hp will be ablo to successfully heave the vessel off into deep water again; Tho cutter is wholly uninjured, except the loss of a few sheets of copper, etc. Tho s.s. Australia arrived at 11 am. yesterday, from Wellington and East Coast ports. She left Wellington on the 29th ultimo, Napier on the Slst, Gisborno on the Ist instant, and callod at Tologa Buy, Tuparoa, and Hick's Bay, Fine weather was met with throughout. The brigantine Stanley, from Lyttelton, arrived in harbour yesterday afternoon, but, owing to it being obb tide at the time, alio was forced to drop anchor off the powder ground. \ NEW YORK. Freights,—At New York freights wero ruling as follows on the 3rd March. Kates to all ports, except to Dunedin ami Auckland, were a trifle higher, ami were quoted: Imiodin, 15 cents. : Wellington, 22$ to 24 cents. ; Auckland, 15 cents. Shipowners were firm for oir own prices. ' The barque C. W. Janes, 525 tons, loft New York on the 4th February for Auckland and Lyttelton, Slid has on board the following cargo for here:—7Eo c»s cn kerosene oil, 130 cases turpentine, lt>o bills, plaster, 2 cases shovels, OS cases axes »mi hatchets, Sf> c a s«3 sowing machine*. 760 par.kaj as mill machinery, 203 reels barb wire. 66 packages cariiageware, 16 packages nails, 43 caao3 handles, 31 cases chair*, 120 cs'.os slatos, 17 casos scales, 65 cases mfd. tobacco. 6 m ft. d-.-sls, 4S packages oars, 48 loose oars. The barque Arab was ou the berth loading for Dunedin and Auckland whon the mail loft, and sho was expected to sail about tho 20th March. Sho is a vessel of 641 tons.
