Betting on the Newmarket Handicap and Australian Cup has been stagnant for the last few days, owing to local races. For the Newmarket Handicap. Lochiel was quoted at 100 to 14; Master John, 12 to 1; Richworth and Mitrailleuse, 10 to 1 ; Middlemarch and Quentin Matseys, 8 to I ; Volcano and Abner, 7 to 1 ; William Tell, Chicago, and Invermay, sto 1. [The above has evidently been mutilated in transniisson.] For the Cup, Nelson is at 3 to 1 ; Trident, 5 to 1; Arsenal, Bto 1. the tips. " Augur," in the Australasian, tips Lochiel to win the Newmarket Handicap and Nelson to win the Cup. ." Asmodeus," in the Leader, tips Mitrailleuse or Lochiel for the Newmarket Handicap, and Nelson or Meteor for the Cup. Acceptances and entries in connection with the Onehunga Racing Club's Meeting, are due to-night.
