CRIME IN WELLINGTON
[BY TEtEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday. In 1886 the total number of cuses reported in the Wellington District was 1734. Forty, nine males vvero committed for trial, and five females. There were 11S2 summary convictions, of which 444 were for drunkenness. Compared with last year there is a decrease of 9S in this class of offences." Three hundred and thirty \ males and 57 females were discharged. Ip the previous year the total number of case® reported was 1,692, room. The supposed counterfeit sovereigns in McCarthy's possession turn out to be partly shillings gilded, and partly markers or tokens of (some sort, and the police are not likely to proceed : any further in the matter. The accusation of robbery brought against him was a pure hallucination on Zahl'e part.
