Wate&pjpks and Fountain. — Mr. J. Kr.cx, the Borough Engineer, wrote asking th» Council to authorise the laying of about 40 feet cf 6-inch earthenware pipes from end of waterpipea in Union-street to carry off the sluice water. He also asked what pattern he should procure for the extra drinking fountains. Decided to defer the consideration of the first question for the present. With regard to the pattern of fountain, it was decided to instruct the Engineer to procure the cheapest fountain he can obtain in Auckland. Tramways.—A memorandum of agreainent between the Council and the Tramway Company, authorising the company to extend their lines in Newmarket, was forwarded for the signature of the Council. Mr. Suiter moved, " hat the seal of the body corporate of Newmarket be affixed to the document." The motion was seconded, and carried. ate Mains.Messrs. Pearce, Porter, and O'Scliivan wrote, asking that water mains might be laid in Burke and Eden streets. Redded that the engineer be instructed to arrange with the contractor in terms of contract to provide 4-inch mains, as requested, in Burke and Eden streets Reports.—John Wilson, Newmarket turncock, reported that he had connected 158 hcases with the water supply. Some very extensive leakages had been discovered within the last few days in the Kyber Pass and Manukan roads. When the pipes were examined the jointing was found to hare been done in a most indifferent and unworkmanlike manner. Ha recommended that an account for £10 be sent to the Insurance Association for water supply at the late fire. Report received. Alex. Bruce, inspector of nuisances, reported that the nuisances in the Chinaman's gardens had been partially abated. Askew is keeping a pig on his premises. Now that the hot weather had set in an epidemic may break out at any time, and he suggested that the sewer be flushed at least twice weekly. Report received, and decided that the inspector be instructed to take action against any person keeping pigs in tho borough. Also decided that people connected with the main sewer receive notice to disconnect, and in the event of their failing to comply that they be proceeded against in accordance with the by-laws. Chakgk job Water to Outsiders.—On the motion of Mr. Whisker, it was decided to charge outsiders or non ratepayers in the borough the same rates as in the Borough of Newmarket, namely, a rate and a half. Finances.The following is the state of the finances for the month -Water loan account credit, £614 17s lid ; interest and sinking fund account credit, £176 7* Id ; less half year's Interest to February, £120 ; credit balance, £50 7s Id; waterworks account credit, £59 14* 2d ; general account debit, £3,9 15» lOd. A number of accounts were parsed for payment. Newmarket School.—Mr. Suiter said the School Board had asked him if the Council would supply water to the Newmarket school. Decided to supply the school with water at the rate of £4 per annum, the Board to pay for the piping required. This was all the business.
