THE CAPTURE OF THE CONVICT CRABTREE.

(BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday A large crowd assembled at the Resident Magistrate's Court to get a glimpse of the convict Crabtree. The latter, who was in rather a weak condition, both legs and feet being swollen and battered about in his attempt to evade the police, was supported into the dock by two constables, and provided with a seat. The clothes in which he was arrested were taken from him, and he appeared in tho ordinary convict garb. Crabtree, who is undergoing thirteen years, would have been entitled to release on the minimum period under present warrant on December 13, 1894. The prisoner reserved his defence, and was committed for trial for breaking away from gaol. Detective Campbell will obtain the £20 reward prescribed by tho Act for the capture ot escaped convicts.
