LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD
[BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Chrisichurch, Wednesday. The annual meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board was held to-day. The auditor, Mr. J. Olliver, had disallowed, under section 172 of the Act, two items, £223 gratuity to the children of the late pilot, Reid, and £413 retiring allowance to Captain McLellsn, late harbourmaster. The Chairman expressed the opinion that section 490 of the Harbours Act authorised the Board to incur expenditure of this nature. The accounts showed a balance of £1925 expenditure over assets. The Treasurer repotted that the Board commenced iu 1886 with a debit balance of £1494. The ordinary expenditure for the year was £24,160; works expenditure was £7155, making a total of £32,809. The total receipts for the year, £28,122 ; debit balance, £4687, with outstanding cash assets of £3411, leaving an excess of expenditure of £1925. The estimated revenue fcr ISS7 is £30,075 ; expenditure, £25.549 ; surplus balance, £4526 ; total assets, £493.433 ; liabilities, £205, including £200,000 loan. Wharfage dues were levied on 69,133 tons of merchandise ani 79,374 tons of' grain, 86.709 tons coal, 11,579,590 feettimber, and 76,014 bales wool. Total wharfage showed a decrease of £470 against ISSS. Ordinary revenue of the Board, £303 633 ; expenditure, £135.563 ; loan receipts, £231,569; harbour works expendl. ture £354,325. 19,000 tons of sack goods were handled in the bond stores during the year, and 1400 tons of other goods.
